How the medication works:
Aspirin prevents the heart attack by stopping the work of platelets, a blood cell which initiates the blood clotting and blocks the artery.
Indication:
Heart attack: Chew 1 tablet by mouth as soon as the heart attack symptoms (chest pain, jaw pain, unable to breath) begins. Call 911.
Adverse Effect:
Bleeding, Reye’s syndrome in children (brain and liver swelling), stomach ulcer, ringing ears
Exclusion to self care:

Currently taking blood thinner

Currently taking NSAIDs for pain

History of stomach bleeding
-
History of heartburn
-
Have a kidney, liver or heart disease

Have a high blood pressure
Do not use if..

Allergic reactions to NSAIDS

Allergic reactions to asprin

Do not use if oral surgery < 7 days
Stop use and ask a doctor if:

Sign and symptoms of stomach bleeding (bloody stool)

Patient continues to expereince pain > 10 days
-
Patient continues to experience fever> 3 days

Redness or swelling
Drug Interaction:

NSAIDs Increases the bleeding risk
-
Anti depressent Increases the bleeding risk

Loop diuretics (Furosemide) Decreases the effect of furosemide and causes kidney toxicity
Special Instructions:
Drink full glass of water if possible. Avoid in children under 12 years
