How the medication works:
Calcium carbonate works by neutralizing excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Indication (Age > 12 years):

Heartburn: Chew 2 tablets by mouth once as symptoms of heartburn occurs.

Acid indigestion or upset stomach: Take 2 tablets by mouth once as symptoms of acid indigestion occurs. Patient can take 2 tablets again after 1 hour
Adverse effects:

Constipation

Belching

Gas
-
Metallic taste
Exclusion for self care:
Patient is currently suffering from kidney disease

Allergic to calcium carbonate

Pregnant and breast feeding

Excessive amount of calcium in the body
Stop use and ask your doctor if:
Symptoms of heart burn is continuous for > 2 weeks
Drug interaction:

Digoxin Increased risk of arrythmia
-
Tetracyclin Decreased effect of tetracyclin

Hydrochlorothiazide Increased amount of calcium in the body
Special Instructions:
Take this medicine with food and full glass of water. Do not take more than 6 tablets in a 24 hour period. Maxjmum use of < 14 days
