Calcium carbonate 1000 mg tablet

Compared to TUMS 1000 mg tablet

How the medication works:

Calcium carbonate works by neutralizing excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

 

Indication (Age > 12 years):

  • Heartburn: Chew 2 tablets by mouth once as symptoms of heartburn occurs.

  • Acid indigestion or upset stomach: Take 2 tablets by mouth once as symptoms of acid indigestion occurs. Patient can take 2 tablets again after 1 hour

Adverse effects:

  • Constipation

  • Belching

  • Gas

  • Metallic taste

 

Exclusion for self care:

Patient is currently suffering from kidney disease

 

Do not use if...

  • Allergic to calcium carbonate

  • Pregnant and breast feeding

  • Excessive amount of calcium in the body

 

Stop use and ask your doctor if:

Symptoms of heart burn is continuous for > 2 weeks

 

Drug interaction:

  • Digoxin  Increased risk of arrythmia

  • Tetracyclin  Decreased effect of tetracyclin

  • Hydrochlorothiazide Increased amount of calcium in the body

 

Special Instructions:

Take this medicine with food and full glass of water. Do not take more than 6 tablets in a 24 hour period. Maxjmum use of < 14 days
